Kindergarten
In kindergarten we focus on phonemic awareness. Phonemic awareness is an understanding that our language is made up of individual sounds that blend together to form syllables and words. Children with good phonemic awareness skills generally do better with beginning reading and spelling, even though phonemic awareness activities are oral and do not require reading skills.
Your child is working with me 4x/week for 20-30 minutes. We are working on specific letter names and sounds, matching initial sounds with pictures and/or their letters.
Please watch for an activity packet that will be coming home in November, December, January/February, March, April/May, and June (summer). These will be hands on activities for your child to complete at home.
