Read All About It! March 20, 2008
Parents,
Well, we made it through winter! Let’s hope that the
spring weather arrives soon. Although we had an abbreviated
schedule this week, the children and I were very busy.
The new reading selection continued the discussion of rights and responsibilities, respect, laws, and good and services. Our main story was a humorous fiction,
The Signmaker’s Assistant. A copy has been provided for you to share at home with your child. The decodable reader,
Fun in the Summer Sun, reinforces the vowels, aw, au, augh, and al. Also, please reread the leveled reader that your child shared in guided reading this week.It reinforces vocabulary, and helps with fluency and comprehension.
We completed math Unit 8 this week. The skills test will
be sent home following spring vacation. This week we worked
on coordinate grids, pictographs and bar graphs, and reviewed the unit’s concepts. Time remains challenging for most students. We will continue to revisit time, particularly names for equivalent times.
The children completed two writing projects; one assignment was story summarizing, and the second was on springtime activities. Sentence fluency is a goal, as well as staying on topic, and adding detail.
Library books were not checked out this week, due to
spring break. Name shirts have been sent home for a cleaning, and are required in school the day we return, Monday, March 31st.
Have a wonderful vacation!
Sincerely, Ms. Drake
