Read All About It! March 7, 2008
Parents,
Responsibility is the theme for our current reading unit.
This week’s content was about being responsible family member, citizenship, and rules of pet care. Our main reading selection was about a misbehaving puppy, Dodger. Copies have been made for home sharing. I read other books for background. We also discussed and listed family responsibilities in the home. The children completed a writing assignment on this topic, which
we will make into a class book.
The target phonics skill was the silent consonant clusters kn, mb, wr, and gn. We modeled and practiced the use of the
pronouns, I and me. The decodable reader, Penpals, gave the
children additional review of our skills. The leveled readers
should be reread at home for vocabulary and reading fluency.
We are continuing to practice time in math. This week we covered equivalent times, and we reviewed time vocabulary. For example, quarter past 2 is the same as 2:15 or 4:30 is the
same as half past 4, or 1:40 is the same as twenty minutes before 2:00. I reviewed double-digit regrouping and we worked
on using data from tables. Please make sure your child puts
their name on all math homework papers.
We are continuing our weather discussion in science, and
we also completed a writing lesson. March is coming in like a
lion, let’s hope it goes out nicely like a lamb!
Name shirts are being sent home today for a cleaning. Please return on Monday, along with library books.
Report card envelopes need to be signed, and returned to school.
Have a terrific weekend. Sincerely, Ms. Drake
