Parents,
It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Math Marathon. The students enjoyed the opportunity to participate in the Math activities with you.
As a reminder, due to the shortened week next week there will be no Spelling test (therefore the students will not receive a Spelling List this Friday). The next Spelling List will be sent home December 1st and the test will be delayed until Friday, December 5th.
Following are upcoming events:
o Friday, November 21 is the end of the 1st trimester
o Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled for Monday, November 24 and Tuesday, November 25th. Thank you to all of you who have confirmed your date and time.
Name shirts will be sent home for the Thanksgiving break therefore please remind your child to bring their shirt back to school on Monday, December 1st.
Have a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving!
Mrs. Oliver
End of Trimester 1
The trimester has gone quickly once again. We continue to push students in the direction of physical fitness. This year will be the first year in which we collect data on student achievement for the President's Fitness Challenge. 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be included on the data sheets compiled by the P.E. teachers. We are taking percentages on students whom were below national standards, met national standards, and met presidential standards in curl ups, mile run, and sit and reach tests.
My classes have also worked on skills in soccer, football, and volleyball in the first trimester. I stress the importance of mastering skills before learning rules of a game. My expectations during game play are that all students use good sportsmanship and obey all rules.
Health class has been in session for two weeks now. Each grade level has a different curriculum. Overall, students have been learning about good character, body systems, and safety in school, in their home, and in public.
