Mr. Polnow's Classroom Notes
End of Trimester 1
The trimester has gone quickly once again. We continue to push students in the direction of physical fitness. This year will be the first year in which we collect data on student achievement for the President's Fitness Challenge. 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be included on the data sheets compiled by the P.E. teachers. We are taking percentages on students whom were below national standards, met national standards, and met presidential standards in curl ups, mile run, and sit and reach tests.
My classes have also worked on skills in soccer, football, and volleyball in the first trimester. I stress the importance of mastering skills before learning rules of a game. My expectations during game play are that all students use good sportsmanship and obey all rules.
Health class has been in session for two weeks now. Each grade level has a different curriculum. Overall, students have been learning about good character, body systems, and safety in school, in their home, and in public.
Welcome Back
The 2008-2009 school year is off and running in Elementary North's P.E. department. Students have responded well in the opening weeks to their expectations for the year. Please be sure to have your student/s come to class with proper gym shoes (nothing that will slip off or expose any part of their foot). Name shirts are also required daily and should be taken home to be washed weekly!! We're all looking forward to a fun and exciting year at Elementary North.
