Ms. Lasko's Classroom Notes
Happy Thanksgiving
The kindergartners have been working very hard learning the letter sounds, songs, and actions from Jolly Phonics. We have completed Book 3 and the children are having fun playing with the sounds and actions to make and guess words. In sound Book 4, we will be learning the digraphs ai, oa, ie, and ee.
We continue to practice sentence writing in our sound books, focusing on proper conventions. The children are getting really good at and enjoy writing their own sentences sounding out the words.

Off to a Great Start
We are off to an exciting and busy year in kindergarten! The kindergartners have settled in, learning the routine of getting themselves ready for the day, doing calendar, and the "Getting to Know You" chart. They are enjoying each new jingle we learn with "Jolly Phonics" and are doing very well with sounding out and printing the sounds for each letter presented. Thus far, we have completed Sound Book 1 and are now working in book 2.
In between our Jolly Phonics Program, we have been reading about fall and the change of seasons. The students printed and colored a "Fall Leaves" booklet which is displayed in the red pod hall.
Please remember to check folders daily and review the work with your child. Printing papers not finished at school should be completed at home for practice.
Please call me at 847-990-4561 with any questions or concerns.

And work and play everyday some.
Whew! The kindergartners have just completed Book 4 of Jolly Phonics. They have learned the sounds, jingles, and actions for ai, j, oa, ie, ee, and or. Ask your child the sound rule for "two vowels go walking". The children are doing such an amazing job! I am impressed each day with how excited they are about learning and how much they know!
We are reading about and discussing why we celebrate Thanksgiving and how the first Thanksgiving got started. Students were very enthusiastic to share the many things for which they are thankful. We discussed how brave the pilgrims were to make the long journey to America and how helpful and caring the native americans were teaching the pilgrims what to hunt and how to fish and plant corn.
Please remember conferences on Thursday evening, Nov. 15, Monday, Nov. 19, and Tuesday, Nov. 20. It is not too late to make an appointment, if you have not done so already. Please call the office to set up a time. Also, report cards will be sent home with students on Friday, November30.
I hope you all have a happy and safe Thanksgiving and enjoy these days with your families and friends.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Ms. Lasko
Learn Some Think Some
We have completed sound book three of the Jolly Phonics Program. The children have learned eighteen sounds, jingles, and actions. WOW! Great job, Kindergartners! We continue to practice blending sounds to make words with each new letter. After a brief review, we are beginning sound book four. Everyone at home should know these sounds and songs by now.
We continue to read books about fall and discuss the change in season and weather. To hone patterning skills, the students used cut out apples and pumpkins to complete, create, and name patterns. After much discussion and brain power, the children deduced why we use apples and pumpkins for decoration at this time of year. We all agreed that pumpkins make better jack-o-lanterns than do watermelons!
Happy Autumn,
