Every year parents ask me "What will my child have for homework?" and every year I tell parents that the BEST thing that they can do to increase their child's academic success is to read to them EVERY day. Reading daily will increase your child's vocabulary, comprehension, and hopefully help your child to catch the reading habit.

Welcome to an exciting year at Hawthorn Elementary North. I am looking forward to having your child in my first grade class. Their enthusiasm and energy offer great challenges, and I look forward to my year with them and you, too. My hope is to meet their physical, social and emotional needs in an environment, which encourages optimum intellectual development. Be sure to share with me any information you feel may be helpful.

Help your child learn to make decisions and accept the results of that decision. Give your child the gift of organization, and a strategy to develop it. Share times that are creative, not expensive. Encourage independence, but don't expect it to be absolute. HAVE FUN!
